Malaga aims for year-round direct flights to New York
Malaga’s Costa del Sol airport, currently offering direct flights to New York between May and September, is working towards extending this service year-round. This announcement follows a meeting between Francisco Salado, president of the province, and Jacobo Florido, the head of tourism, with industry leaders in San Diego.
Salado expressed optimism, stating it is only "a matter of time" before these flights are available all year. He emphasised that the Costa del Sol’s strong appeal to both tourists and businesses will facilitate more direct connections with North American hubs. This expansion would provide access to a high-quality tourist market and open up numerous business opportunities for the region's economic growth.
Florido reinforced this vision, noting Malaga’s key position as the air gateway to Andalusia and its ambition to become a primary entry point to Europe for U.S. travellers and investors.
Currently, United Airlines operates a direct thrice-weekly service from Malaga to New York, using a Boeing 757-200 with 176 seats, including 16 PolarisSM flat-bed seats and 160 in economy class. Ticket prices for economy seats range from €600 to €900, depending on booking dates. This service, launched in 2023, has been part of Malaga’s growing connectivity with North America.
