Man dies after a fight over a parking space in Valencia
A 62-year-old man has tragically died after being assaulted in a parking dispute, leading to the arrest of a 37-year-old Colombian man for attempted homicide. The incident occurred on Tuesday at 6:30pm in the town of Alzira, Valencia, and the victim succumbed to his injuries on Thursday morning.
The suspect, now in custody, allegedly attacked the older man following an argument over a parking space. The victim suffered a severe blow, fell to the ground, and was subsequently admitted to the Ribera Hospital in critical condition, ultimately succumbing to his injuries.
The incident unfolded on Tuesday afternoon on Calle Ramón y Cajal in the capital of Ribera. The victim approached a parking space reserved for disabled drivers and noticed a woman parking there. After honking and inquiring about her permit to use the designated spot for people with disabilities, a verbal dispute ensued. The woman, lacking the necessary authorisation, eventually left the space.
The 62-year-old man parked his car and headed home, as he lived on a nearby street. An hour later, upon returning to his car, he found the woman and her partner waiting beside it.
Without uttering a word, the now-detained assailant approached the victim and delivered a powerful punch to his face. The force of the punch caused the man to hit a wall as he fell to the ground.
Witnesses to the brutal assault shouted from their balconies and rushed to the street to aid the seriously injured victim. A neighbour from the building opposite was among the first to assist, confirming that the victim was still breathing but bleeding significantly. Traces of blood still mark the scene of the tragic incident.
Shortly after, an ambulance arrived to take the victim to the University Hospital of Ribera, where he was admitted in critical condition. The man sustained irreversible injuries from the impact, leading to a state of cerebral death. Homicide investigators took charge of the case, locating and apprehending the aggressor within a few hours of the incident, who is now in custody.
